How big is a pickleball court? (And tennis, basketball & padel)

The official playing lines and — more importantly for planning — the total concrete pad each sport actually needs. These are the numbers we build to across Arizona.

A pickleball court's playing lines are 20 × 44 feet, but you should plan a 30 × 60 foot pad so players have room to run down shots. A regulation tennis pad is 60 × 120 feet — four times the footprint. Total pad size, not line size, is what determines whether a court fits your property.

Multi-sport courts: what fits on what

A standard 60 × 120 ft tennis pad fits four pickleball courts with blended lines, and a 30 × 60 ft pickleball pad doubles comfortably as a half-court basketball pad with an overhung hoop. Multi-sport striping uses contrasting line colors so each game reads clearly. See multi-sport striping.

Orientation and slope

Outdoor courts should run long axis north–south so neither player faces the sun at its worst angles. Hard courts are built with a uniform slope of roughly 1 inch per 10 feet (about 0.8–1%) in a single plane so water sheets off instead of pooling — standing water, not play, is what ages a surface fastest in Arizona.
